We've selected some of our favourite businesses in the area to help you have the best stay ever!
Just click on the images to be directed to their websites. We recommend you contact restaurants/cafes to make sure they are open.
Things change quite regularly and it is difficult for us to keep up with it all, so we recommend you visit the websites or google the businesses to avoid disappointment.
The special discounts we have organised are with EKO Spa - see below.
There are lots of places to be pampered in Daylesford and we wish we could say we have tried them all. But we have tried some and the three below are our favourites. We recommend you book before your stay to avoid disappointment. It is certainly worth considering the Hepburn Springs Bathhouse as it has the pool and the Sanctuary but it can be expensive. If you would like to have an in-house massage let us know and we'll make a recommendation.
EKO Skin. Care. Spa offers a range of beauty and spa treatments at truly affordable prices. Their treatment selection includes signature and advanced facial treatments, body massage, hand and foot treatments, spa packages of up to 4 hours as well as waxing, tinting, tanning and eyelash extensions
As you enter the gates of EKO you will walk into our serene flower-filled courtyard and through our doors to be welcomed with the gentle scent of calming oils instantly helping you to relax.
Their treatments are personalised to your needs and performed by professionals in our beautiful treatment rooms. Treatments - one hour or more - begin with a foot soak where your therapist will cleanse, exfoliate and massage your feet, allowing you to unwind before your treatment begins.
Message from Sue and Lisa -The owners and staff are fabulous and we have organised special packages exclusive to our guests at a really good discount. To obtain the special packages and discounts give them a call and let them know you are staying at The Hide and ask about their discounted packages.
At Renewal Massage, they leave you feeling serenely relaxed and at ease in your body with a heightened sense of wellbeing. Yep, the words are straight from their website and we know John Herberte the owner very well but we wouldn't recommend them unless we had experienced the treatments and thought they were good. The atmosphere is conducive to be relaxed and pampered and the prices are a lot less than some of the big spa/massage centres. They are just around the corner in Albert Street diagonally opposite the supermarket. Call John on 0429998785 - they book out fast on weekends.
Masseurs who come to you
If you are looking for a mobile masseur let us know as we have a small list. If you do book a mobile masseur check they have insurance - even the ones we have listed. We have asked if they have insurance and we have only listed those who have told us they have insurance but you should also check.
The Surly Goat has been created by hospitality veteran Simon Bevanda and not so veteran Vanessa Kalamistrakis. They have transformed what was a café into what is now a place to eat and drink, whether at the bar; by the roaring fireplace; or in one of the intimate dining spaces overlooking the tree lined gully and walking paths of Hepburn Springs. There’s also a courtyard out the back to be enjoyed in the warmer months with a cool drink or two.
Vanessa and Simon are working closely with head chef to produce a diverse, interesting and ever changing menu that will always deliver on delicious. This is one of our very favourite places to eat.
Wine And The Country is a fully independent fine wine retailer located in Daylesford, Victoria. Representing local treasures from regional Victoria, as well as International greats...this is a wine selection like no other! Take advantage of their on-premise license and enjoy wine by the glass, coffee roasted locally, delicious charcuterie & cheeses. They even let you take your own food (like take-away Indian or Fish n Chips or order and pick up a pizza from Rubens in Hepburn Springs on your way through.) so you can enjoy their great wine. We are members so you can use our membership card during your stay and benefit from the discounts.
DOS is the deli next door to Wine & The Country and it is great. You can pick up some great deli treats from DOS and pop next door for a fabulous glass of wine.
Daylesford Wine Tours tailor a tour to your tastes and take the guess work out of your stay as well as answering those all too nagging questions "who's the designated driver?" or what can we do to fill a spare couple of hours?
The Glenlyon General Store is located in (you guessed it) - Glenlyon! Just a ten minute drive from Daylesford on the Daylesford Malmsbury Road. They have live music on Friday nights and breaky and lunch every day. The food is very good as is the coffee and you can have something alcoholic too if you so choose (and most of the wine is local). It's worth the short drive out there.
The Book Barn on Lake Daylesford
The Book Barn is right on Lake Daylesford next to the car park, and is a licensed cafe and second hand book store. They have a small balcony and it is lovely to walk around the lake and end up there to have a glass of wine or coffee (and something to eat).
The Grande, Hepburn Springs
Monday night is locals night and The Grande takes you back to the Art Deco days. The Peacock Room - the bar has a lovely atmosphere and is beautifully decorated and the food is good. Breakfast is really good too.
THE GUILDFORD WINERY - FOR LUNCH ON THE WEEKEND
We love having lunch at the Guildford Winery! The setting is beautiful and if you are like us and love to pretend to be in Italy or France, then this is the place for you. The dining area is al fresco looking out over the vines. Zac, the chef delivers several courses to share, from beautiful ingredients. If you have dietary requirements or preferences let Zac know when you book.
Things to do
Most of the shops are in Vincent Street both on the flat and down the hill. But don't forget to walk up Raglan Street towards the fountain as there are lots of great businesses there such as The Secret Garden and Bistro Terroir.
Some of our favourites are eCasa, Benjamin Bandicoot, Manteaux Noir, Daylesford Clothing, Magic Pudding, Debbie Moses and Alpaca Passion.
eCasa (e – European; Casa – home) showcases homewares designers and manufacturers largely from France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. The suppliers to eCasa range from the most traditional artisans of France & Italy to the innovative designers of Spain and France.
Out in the countryside ten minutes north of Daylesford, drive over the creek, walk up a poplar-lined driveway. You'll find around the cobbled courtyard a cluster of farmhouse buildings: the house, the Barn, and the Stillroom. Italian-speaking Swiss immigrants built the rustica in golden stone and ran a dairy farm for 4 generations from the 1860s. It is one of our favourite places to visit.
The Chocolate Mill - for all of you chocoholics!
At Chocolate Mill all Belgian couveture chocolates are hand-made on site and sold exclusively from here. There is a retail store in the front of the kitchen, with a viewing window to see the production as it happens. There is also a cafe where award-winning hot chocolates, coffees, ice-creams, cakes & drinks are served. It is only 3 km from The Hide so you could get there quickly by car or take a leisurely walk. For those coming from The Cottage you could walk along the Goldfields Track and arrive at the Chocolate Mill to be rewarded with a chocolate indulgence.
The Daylesford Farmers' Market is held on the first Saturday of every month. It's not very big but worth a visit. Get there early as parking can be an issue. It is situated on the primary school oval which is on your right as you go through the Post Office round about down Vincent Street.
The Sunday Market is on every Sunday morning and located at the old railway station on Raglan Street between the Farmer's Arms Hotel and the local Nursery. It has lots of stalls which include bric a brac, food, fresh produce and all sorts of odds and sods. Worth a wander on a nice day.
The Mill Market is an indoor collection of stalls selling antiques, furniture of all periods, nick nacks, clothing - you name it. It is quite large and perfect to visit on a cold rainy day.
Walks or mountainbike tracks
Either ask us, visit the Local Info Centre in Vincent Street next to the Post Office or go to www.goldfieldstrack.com.au if you are interested in the tracks in the area. We have lovely walks straight from the driveway of The Hide and it is the launching pad for walks and rides in all directions.
